The “We Said There’d Be Trains” Collection

I don’t know what it is about trains, but they sure seem to have a hold on a lot of people. When I was little, we had what I think was a small HO-scale (1:87 scale) layout in our garage in Long Beach. I don’t remember much about it because my Dad seemed to be the one operating it and it stayed behind when we moved to Colorado in the summer of 1964.

Anyway, I inherited, so to speak, an outdoor garden railroad when my wife Lynne and I were married and I have been a fan ever since. The photos in this collection are mostly related to my Carquinez & Alhambra Valley Railroad and to specific modeling projects I have undertaken related to the layout.

I am a long-time member of the Bay Area Garden Railway Society, one of the oldest and largest groups of its kind in the United States. I have recently become editor of Trellis & Trestle, the monthly BAGRS newsletter and that has given me access to a number of resources … and photos, some of the best of which are contained here.

Finally, it turns out that full-size trains exist to provide materials for us modelers, and so there are some photos of the big boys, as well.
